Sort of tragicomic ? Since once we now start downscaling (in terms of fuel consumption) why not then really downscale (also in terms of our oversized "egos") - who really needs them that big and for what ?
Random thoughts and things which would be nice to remember ... documented mainly for myself

Hydrogen fuel cells carry energy, they don't produce it.they may reduce emissions, but they don't deal with the major problem, which is dwindling fuel supplies. So, these truly are ego machines. The ethanol powered vehicle is interesting, but presently unfeasible.
True... and I do actually think that it absolutely great that this is going on. It's just that why not downscale the ridiculous size of these cars at the same time ? Every time I been in States I've seen roads filled with oversized cars all basically having one or so person inside. Measurable savigns would be made if US cars would be "normal" sized .... you can save even if Ethanol or Hydrogen
not with the present size of hydrogen cells, but that's neither here nor their.
I live in Qatar right now and EVERYBODY owns at least a land cruise (except for the people who buy minis. strange dichotomy). Those people will never, ever buy small vehicles. Hell, one of my best friend drives an H2. not even the sane ones get it.
;o)
As one Pentti Linkola, a Finnish "eco thinker" (or actually doer since he has truly lived like he preaches) says it - we do as long as we can... so yep - as long as it's possible it's H2.
But then again I believe there is a big change ongoing at least in Europe just right now - fuel economics has become part of the key competition landscape for the car manufacturers.
Between the cost of a vehicle and the price of gas, the price of a hummer is probably exactly enough to educate the children of the people who own them.
