Sorry... I'm bit pissed off. Thoughts about agriculture and goverment subsidies to farmers:
In last Sunday's Helsingin Sanomat Opinions-section there was a lot of comments (via Hesari's Internet channel) about the results of last weeks EU's agriculture ministers' meeting ... virtually everybody were complainaining that
- why do Finnish tax payer have to pay for Finnish farmers
- why are farmers treated different than "normal" Finnish private small companies
- why do we produce eg sugar or actually any food in Finland (with our tax money) when it would be so much cheaper to import it from other (in sugar's case outside of EU) countries...
Why ?
Would actually be nice to have all those people asking "Why?" signing in to following "statement":
"I undersigned want to have my food cheaper now. It's totally OK for me that we do not have our own food production. I also hereby allow people not signing this to have priority over me and my family in case we cannot get all the food in a reasonable price from outside of Finland... under any circumstances."
If these "Why?" people are ready to sign this I am willing to pay significantly more now for all the food me and my family consumes than they do ... but as mentioned above will then have priviledge over the food once the shit hits the fan. (Because it will.. if it's in form of 100USD barrel oil, or lenghtened dry period in key food producing areas, or some politics, or what ever..)
well, actually I'm sort of doing that already now by selecting locally produced food but it does not quarantee me food in the future while I'm sure that those now protesting for local subsides for Finnish countryside will be the first ones demanding locally produced food when the shit has hit the fan... they always are
ps. local food even as subsidised is definately more economic - we as Europeans will anyway subsidise with our taxes the food produced in EU and transported in worst case by airgargo
Random thoughts and things which would be nice to remember ... documented mainly for myself
