...and it has a name - innovation trauma
Professor Liisa Välikangas writes about "innovation trauma" in Tekniikka&Talous. Innovation trauma = utter disappointment in the minds of people involved in corporate internal start-up when it has failed and been closed for reason or another...
Sunray (cloud computer) within Sun Microsystems as an example:
"(After the failure) Some of the members (of the extremely hard working team) just made a conclusion that now I am wiser and from now on I will never do any innovation work. Others just left the company. The fact, that the reasons and consequences of the failure were not analysed, lead to cynisism.
Innovation trauma must be treated, so that also those who gave everything for the project get over it. Innovation is characterized by not meeting the targets. That means that lots of traumas are created. When un-treated, these will lead to bitterness. Most talented people leave the company, and company is left with those people who have never tried anything new and thus not been so heavily disppapointed."
Another piece to the puzzle of how Nokia Ventures Organization could have been improved.

8th anniversary of blogging
Today it is 8 years from starting this blog... has been worth of it. Still the best way to dig into some memories, observations and thoughts. The "publicity" has added the crucial momentum which has kept this process ongoing (unlike many other things I have tried to keep doing).
For 8th anniversary a video worth of wacthing for all of us now: http://vimeo.com/55073825
Should a few days period in Space station be mandatory for all leaders - prime ministers, presidents, CEOs of global companies, the bankers especially :)

Vaclav Smil

"In every society, manufacturing builds the lower middle class. If you give up manufacturing, you end up with haves and have-nots and you get social polarization. The whole lower middle class sinks."
In a way very depressive to find much wiser men backing up your own long time conclusions.

The scale....
Parkour makes me always think of the amazing scale which exists on human capabilities ... easy example of that scale - of course exists in pretty much everything we do.

Size matters
"It does not really matter how I live and what choises I do - I am only one of 7 billion. Not to forget that real 'stuff' happens anyways on industrial level."
Interestingly, now when our survival starts (again) to be the issue, the size of humanity turns out to be a key handicap... Instead of all of us thingking that if we all do few small changes now voluntarily we can have a huge effect, we tend to think that our actions do not matter when there is so many of us.
But then again, hasn't it always been so that greatness/size is the main source for destruction?
Big leads to Blindness which can lead to destruction.

Good feedback can be bad for you and your cause
Following lesson learned from the last 2 years when trying to build a start-up: getting positive feedback can make you loose momentum, slow you down. It can make you wait for the progress to just happen, wish and assume that now someone is also doing something for you. Whereas negative feedback kicks you to move, tune, re-adjust, re-think, try harder.
In other words, if you get positive feedback but it does not result as an immediate and obvious urgency from giver's side, you should either move on or re-think your offer to get the "Let's grap it/him/her so that others don't get it".
Great infographics about over-fishing

Future does not look bright ... seems to be more important to get re-elected than make really rough decisions. I wish that EU leaders would be willing to be as tought with this dead serious matter than with saving €.
